Ensure that you have first setup Excel as described here.
To use the Manta12x8Import macro your XLS spreadsheet should contain your 12x8 microplate data in Excel cells A1-L8 corresponding to the microplate wells A1-H12 as shown here:
With your data in this orientation press Ctrl+Shift+M to start the macro. (Note, this will not work whilst you are editing a cell, if the cursor is blinking next to fx click on any cell first.) Click here for details of how to launch the macro from a custom Excel button.
When the macro is executed, Excel will prompt you to save the XLS file if you have not already done so. You can then select an Assay Protocol to launch and the data from your Excel spreadsheet will be transferred to the assay protocol.
The Assay Protocol which you select must be a protocol which has been configured to import data from Excel.
To get started select the Basic Excel 12x8.apr file. This is a basic Assay Protocol that can import the 12x8 data from Excel and contains no analysis with a microplate layout setup with 96 unknowns. You can use this as a starting point to create the protocol you need. Edit the microplate layout and setup the analysis you require and press Recalculate each time until you are happy with the analysis. When everything is setup as you require use the File | Save Protocol option to save the settings to a new protocol which you can use in the future (instead of Basic Excel 12x8.apr).
